Kimball,
NO QUESTION that Dreamweaver is the best web solution out there and the ONLY way to go. But I have a life too.
I have researched Rapidweaver a few times in the past and the examples they have of what's possible with their software on their website are hideous.
Programs don't make you a designer.
Dreamweaver costs $400, Dreamweaver & Flash together cost $1,000
Rapidweaver costs $40
iWeb costs $13.30 (part of the iLife suite that costs $80 for iMovieHD, iDVD, iTunes, GarageBand, iPhoto and iWeb)
13 BUCKS!!! (free on new Macs)
I have created about 30 sharp, clean professional sites with a program that cost $13!
www.pinkbunnypajamas.com - 8 pages, 1 night.
www.globedotter.com - 6 pages, 1 night
www.Uncharted.us - 25 pages, 1 week
Kimball, I never did figure out how to get www.CowgirlBBQ.com to be centered and only open the browser window as big as the site itself!!! ARRRRGGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!
You couldn't figure it out either. That's my point. 2 experienced designers, not to mention web, mac and techo-savvy professionals couldn't find out how to do the most basic design changes in Dreamweaver.
iWeb is the FASTEST, EASIEST and best-looking and completely customizable tool out there for designing websites. I've been using it for 4 months and most of the 'reviewers' had no idea what they were talking about. The only thing they got right was large .pngs
it is a TRUE WYSIWYG. YES, EVERY PIXEL.
The biggest problem in iWeb is that it doesn't compress your files for you. -That's it. If it did, which the next version will do for sure - it will ask you how much you want to compress. This is Version 1.0. 1.0!!! You haven't even used it.
In iWeb, I don't HAVE to deal with large .png files, I can compress them BEFORE I import them just like you have to do in Dreamweaver and Flash. but I choose not to.
I design websites in photoshop at 72 dpi so I don't have to deal with artifacts. I can place each pixel exactly where it needs to go.
I have designed 2 sites in my life using Flash and Dreamweaver.
My Flash site took me all of Christmas vacation 7 years ago. I read every page of the manual 2wice!!!.
My Dreamweaver site took me a couple of weeks with you holding my hand. But it's more of a Photoshop site than a Dreamweaver site. All it has are Dreamweaver drop-down menus.
How many functioning sites have you designed in your LIFE? using Flash and Dreamweaver?
Avalanche - home, contact, flashkit portfolio
Bear World
That one you did last week that looked like Avalanche's
Boy scouts
Kimballclark.com - static page (Illustrator)
Barb's goodies - static home (Photoshop)
That's a total of 10 pages. IN YOUR LIFE! Are there more?
Why don't you do more? BECAUSE YOU HAVE A LIFE AND TO DESIGN SOMETHING QUALITY TAKES WEEKS.
With iWeb I can throw up an awesome site in one night, just like I did with www.GlobeDotter.com
In the time it took me to write you this email, I could have purchased a domain name and built a good-looking site for you and sent you a link with this email on it. Maybe I will.
You CANNOT do that with Dreamweaver. This Blog took me 10 minutes. Please do comment
